According to general manager Chris Wallace, The Memphis Grizzlies have extended a qualifying offer to restricted free agent backup center Hamed Haddadi.
The 7’2″, 265-pound Haddadi completed his third NBA season with the Grizzlies averaging 2.4 points, 2.2 rebounds and shot a career-high 51.7 percent from the field in 5.4 minutes in 31 games.
Haddadi appeared in nine postseason games, posting 1.2 points, 0.9 rebounds and 0.56 blocks in 3.4 minutes.
As the first Iranian-born player in NBA history, Haddadi owns career averages of 2.2 points, 2.2 rebounds, 0.45 blocks and a 45.7 percent field goal percentage in 86 games with the Grizzlies. Memphis signed Haddadi as a free agent in 2008.
Extending a qualifying offer to restricted free agents prior to the NBA’s June 30 deadline gives Memphis the ability to match any offer sheet Haddadi might sign with another team during the offseason.
Last week, the Grizzlies exercised a club option on forward Sam Young and extended a qualifying offer to restricted free agent Marc Gasol.
