Four Charged in Death of Former Tide, Vols Player Aaron Douglas

Four people have been charged with allowing underage drinking at a house party where former Alabama and Tennessee football player Aaron Douglas died.

On June 30, police in Fernandina Beach, Florida said at least 16 people under the age of 21 either drank or used illegal drugs while attending the May 12 party.

Those charged include 22-year-old Neal Clements, 21-year-old Nathanial Flanders, 24-year-old Daniel Stouter and 23-year-old Dana Luberto.

Douglas, who had been on vacation in the area, was found dead on the balcony of the home. An autopsy revealed that he had multiple drugs in his system.

The former Crimson Tide and Vols player had a history of substance abuse dating to his youth.

Douglas originally committed to attend Tennessee in July 2006 and signed a letter of intent in 2008 during former coach Phil Fulmer’s tenure.

After Fulmer was forced out following the 2008 season, he earned the starting job at right tackle in his only season at Tennessee during Lane Kiffin’s short stint as the Vols’ coach in 2009.

Shortly after current Volunteers’ coach Derek Dooley took over, Douglas decided to transfer. He played last season at Arizona Western Community College and transferred to Alabama in January.
