2011 SEC Coaches Preseason All-Conference Football Team

Alabama is expected to be among the teams challenging for the SEC and BCS championships, and the number of Crimson Tide players selected to the 2011 SEC Coaches Preseason All-Conference Football Team reflects the reasons.

The Crimson Tide led all SEC teams with seven players on the first team offense and defense, including Memphis native Barrett Jones. Vanderbilt’s Chris Mavre, another Memphis product, was selected to the All-SEC first team defense.

Georgia had six players selected to the first team units, while South Carolina had four players and Arkansas had three. Kentucky was the only other school to have multiple players selected to the first team with two.

Nine of the 12 schools had at least one player selected on the All-SEC first team units.

There are six first team selections that were on last year’s All-SEC team which includes South Carolina team mates Alshon Jeffery, Stephon Gilmore and Marcus Lattimore, Kentucky linebacker Danny Trevathan, Alabama defensive back Mark Barron and Georgia kicker Blair Walsh.

This marks the eighth straight year of the SEC Coaches Preseason All-SEC Team. The team is announced each year in advance of the SEC Football Media Days. This year’s event will be held July 20-22 in Hoover, AL.
