Dear Jerry Jones: Don’t Waste Time On Terrelle Pryor

Dear Jerry:

As a lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan I feel it’s important to tell you that attending former Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor’s pro day is a waste of time.

I realize you’ve always been partial towards talented players that have character issues, but in Pryor’s case he’s not worth the effort.

While Pryor does possess some skills, he’s never going to be anything more than a backup in the NFL. In fact, he may never play quarterback because his skill sets don’t match up with the professional game.

When you think of the NFL’s best QB’s, who comes to mind? Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers, Philip Rivers and Drew Brees are among those who most believe are the best in the league.

And the reason why those quarterbacks are among the best is because they fit the mold of every team in the NFL. When we hear the term “franchise quarterback,” no one is talking about a guy who can run the spread option offense.

Every owner, GM and head coach in the NFL wants a QB that can stand in the pocket and throw the football, and Pryor isn’t that type of player.

He’s one of the growing breed of QB’s that played their high school and college football running the spread option, and that offense doesn’t translate to the NFL.

The primary reason it doesn’t translate is because of money, and that’s something you should know Jerry.

No one is going to invest millions of dollars for a QB to take a pounding. Every quarterback in the NFL is going to get hit plenty of times throughout his career running a pro offense, but the number of hits they’ll take running a spread option offense increases dramatically.

That’s why you’ll never see the spread option run in the NFL. No one wants to pay a QB millions to have him land on the disabled list or even have his career ended because of the multiple hits they’ll take running that offense.

Aside from Pryor’s skill sets, his character issues alone should preclude you from wasting one minute of your time.

Pryor was basically forced to leave Ohio State because he’s a self-absorbed jackass who has only one agenda – himself.

And if you think that’s going to magically change overnight Jerry, well, it ain’t.

Pryor will certainly say all the right things during the interview process because his agent will have coached him up, but that doesn’t change who he really is.

Your former coach Bill Parcells used to say “you are what you are” and Pryor is exactly what he is; a Prima dona that doesn’t have respect for his team mates or the game, and those are two glaring character flaws.

All the red flags that have been raised about Pryor are legitimate and the kid is simply not worth the risk.

I often say “let the other guy be the dumb ass.” You should heed my advice Jerry and let somebody else be the dumb ass who drafts Terrelle Pryor.

Sincerely,

MoonDog
