Video: Play Of The Week – South Florida Fumble Return Vs Notre Dame

Easily the biggest play from the first week of the college football season was South Florida’s fumble return for a TD against Notre Dame in the game’s opening drive.

Starting from their own 20, the Fighting Irish drove 73 yards in six plays to the South Florida 7 to set up a first and goal. Notre Dame’s Cierre Wood carried the ball on consecutive plays gaining six yards to the South Florida 1.

On third and goal, the Irish’s Jonas Gray took a handoff from quarterback Dayne Crist and ran to the left side of the line where he was stood up by several South Florida defenders just inches from the goal line.

The Bulls’ Jerrell Young ripped the ball out of Gray’s arms giving Kayvon Webster a chance to scoop it up and race 96 yards to the end zone for a South Florida touchdown.

That play completely deflated Notre Dame, taking all the momentum from the Fighting Irish. As it it turned out, Notre Dame never recovered.

South Florida’s 23-20 win over the Fighting Irish caused major damage to Notre Dame’s chances of playing for the BCS national championship.

The upset victory will more than likely propel the Bulls into the AP and Coaches top 25 poll this week.

In case you didn’t see the play, here’s the video of South Florida’s Kayvon Webster recovering Jonas Gray’s fumble and sprinting 96 yards for a touchdown.
