ESPN’s Andy Katz is reporting that Baylor and Iowa State have reached out to the Big East about the possibility of joining that conference if the Big 12 folds.
I have no reason to doubt the accuracy of Katz’s sources, so the fact that the Bears and Cyclones are attempting to set up a contingency in the event that the Big 12 collapses doesn’t come as a surprise.
However, Baylor and Iowa State are among the schools in the Big 12 that haven’t waived their legal rights to sue Texas A&M and the SEC.
By not relinquishing those legal rights, Baylor and Iowa State are preventing the Aggies from joining the SEC.
So while the Bears and Cyclones try to save their skins by reaching out to the Big East Conference, both schools look like complete hypocrites.
I wouldn’t have a problem with any school in the Big 12 looking at every possible alternative given the current chaos that exists within that conference.
But considering the Bears and Cyclones have been at the forefront in their efforts to keep Texas A&M from leaving the Big 12, it makes both schools look childish.
Perhaps administrators at Baylor and Iowa State are of the “do as I say, not as I do” ilk, looking out for themselves while preventing the Aggies from joining a superior conference.
The Bears and Cyclones efforts speaks volumes about the current state of the Big 12, a conference populated with schools that all want to do what’s best for themselves, but don’t want to allow their “partners” from doing the same thing.
The Big 12 has become a pathetic example of hypocrisy and greed. Texas A&M clearly made the right choice when they decided to abandon a conference that has become a sinking ship.
Unfortunately for the Aggies, their still aboard while all the life preservers are being snapped up by rats like Baylor and Iowa State.

Let me guess “MoonDog”…you’re an aggie at heart. Iowa State and Baylor are keeping their options open. Unless you’ve heard differently, neither school has actually asked to join, nor have they been offered a spot. Texas A&M went out and approached another conference just one year after they said they were strong in the Big12. If there are any rats running around, I’m imagining them building a huge bonfire somewhere in College Station. The Aggies acted out of greed and humiliation from not being brought in on the Longhorn network. Poor little sister to the Longhorns once again. So how about we all just give A&M some tissues as they head into the butt whoopin they’re going to get in the SEC.
Nope, never been an Aggies fan. Perhaps you should read what I wrote again. I acknowledged that Baylor and Iowa State are doing what they need to do, but not waiving their legal rights to sue Texas A&M while they attempt to jump the Big 12 makes them hypocrites.
