If LSU wins the BCS national championship, everyone can thank Eric Reid for making the play that likely saved the Tigers season.
With the score tied 6-6 early in the fourth quarter against Alabama on Saturday, Reid intercepted Marquis Maze’s pass at the Tigers’ one-yard line that prevented at least an easy field goal attempt that may have won the game for the Crimson Tide.
On a first and 10 play from the LSU 28, Maze threw to Michael Williams who was running free toward the end zone.
Reid saw Williams coming across the field and ran to cover him, jumping up just as Maze’s pass was about to be caught by the Crimson Tide tight end.
The pass initially appeared to have been caught by Williams, but it was Reid who came down with ball. Officials ruled that Reid had intercepted the pass, and replays confirmed the call.
Reid’s interception was another in a long list of spectacular plays made by LSU’s secondary this season.
Tyrann Mathieu and Morris Claiborne have made game changing plays this season that have led to wins, but Reid’s pick helped LSU leap their biggest hurdle in the Tigers’ quest for a BCS national championship.
