Grizzlies’ Darrell Arthur Will Miss Entire Season

The Memphis Grizzlies received bad news on Monday when an MRI exam confirmed that Darrell Arthur will miss the entire season with a torn right Achilles.

Arthur was injured during practice on Sunday and the initial evaluation of a torn Achilles was confirmed following the MRI.

The Grizzlies frontcourt was already shorthanded after losing Shane Battier to free agency and the visa problems that have prevented backup center Hamed Haddadi from entering the U.S.

However, on Monday Haddadi tweeted that he was in Dubai (United Arab Emirates) and expected to have his visa issues resolved very soon.

In response to Arthur’s season-ending injury, the Grizzlies are reportedly preparing an offer sheet for Charlotte Bobcats restricted free agent Dante Cunningham.

Cunningham was selected 33rd overall by the Portland Trail Blazers in the 2009 NBA draft. Charlotte would have three days to match if Memphis offers Cunningham a contract.

Memphis is also in trade discussions with the Philadelphia 76ers about the possibility of acquiring Marresse Speights.

Speights was the 16th pick in the 2008 NBA draft. He is scheduled to earn $2.7 million this season, so the 76ers may ask the Grizzlies for Xavier Henry and Greivis Vasquez to complete the trade.
