Not many among us can say we know a successful physician that just happens to be a rising star in the world of women’s bodybuilding, but such is the case with Dr. Ella Horton.
Ella graduated a year ahead of me at Bishop Byrne High School in Memphis. Aside from being pretty and smart as a whip, you won’t find a nicer person on the planet.
It’s been at least 20 years since I’ve seen Ella, but a friend of mine mentioned he saw her on the cover of the January 2012 issue of Memphis Health + Fitness magazine.
Bodybuilding is generally thought to be a sport for younger people, but Ella has always been one to make her own mark.
You’d be hard pressed to find someone at the age of 50 competing in professional bodybuilding, much less doing so and succeeding.
Ella began competing in 2009 in the NPC Tennessee State Show where she finished first in the Women’s Figure Masters Short competition.
In 2010, Ella earned a pro card at her first national level show, the 2010 Masters Nationals.
In 2011, Ella finished third in the IFBB Optimum Classic Pro Figure & Bikini and the IFBB Europa Super Show. She claimed 16th place at the IFBB Olympia Show in Las Vegas.
In addition to being a Doctor of Pharmacy, Ella is a Cardiovascular Medical Education Consultant and conducts seminars about sports nutrition and fitness.
She’s wearing me out just talking about her resume.
