MoonDog’s Bio
Welcome to MoonDog Sports and thank you for visiting my site, even if you’ve accidentally stumbled upon it.
I began blogging in late October of 2007, writing my first post at Fox Sports on a topic I felt would generate a lot of interest. After a week my first post had amassed a whopping two replies, one of which was mine in response to the only person posting a comment.
Since starting this site in January of 2008, things have progressed rather nicely. This is the newly redesigned home of MoonDogSports.com and I’d like to thank those that have supported me.
In April of 2008 Lawvol and I (mostly Lawvol) worked on a new design for MoonDog Sports. The newly designed site had humble beginnings, drawing a whopping 4500 page views during the month of May.
In January 2009, MoonDog Sports exceeded 230,000 monthly page views and achieved a Google Page Rank of 5. MoonDog Sports is in the top 35,000 U.S. web sites and is in the top 100 sites at Ball Hype.
We’ve come a long way baby, but the best is yet to come.
I’m of Italian decent, with family coming to this country in the late 1800’s from the towns of Ancona and Lucca. Aside from my time in college and the military, and a brief two-year residence in east Tennessee, I’ve spent the better part of my life in Memphis.
I love sports, my favorite of which is football. I can’t describe the passion I have for the game and even if I tried, I wouldn’t do it justice. I’ve been a fan of the Tennessee Volunteers since my youth and have remained on the band wagon since. I love the Southeastern Conference and everything it embodies – the traditions, the competition and the excellence. It is truly the most dominate in all of college sports.
I also enjoy professional football, college basketball, baseball, hockey, and horse racing. My favorite teams are the University of Memphis, Memphis Grizzlies, St. Louis Cardinals, Dallas Cowboys, and the Toronto Maple Leafs.
I’m a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in Europe, Central and South America, and the Persian Gulf. Among my many deployments, I did two tours in the Persian Gulf, the last being between 1989-90 during Operation Desert Storm. I gave six years of my life in service to this great nation for the right to avail myself fully of the First Amendment.
By having my own site, I can write what I want, without worrying if I’m going to be edited, censored, muted or deleted. For those that post comments, unless it is extraordinarily offensive, you can rest assured your voice will be heard in its entirety.
Moreover, I’m more than sports; there are so many issues that interest me – politics, social matters, the stock market – I’m open to discussion. I enjoy a healthy debate, for it is dialogue – conducted in a civil manner – that opens the doors to those that don’t share your views.
Writing is nothing more than a hobby for me. I don’t have any aspirations of writing professionally, but if I were approached about such an opportunity, part-time that is, I’d be interested. I’m self-employed and have been in the transportation industry for over 16 years. I work from home and I literally fall out of bed and stagger 20 feet to my work station. I love the trucking business; it isn’t sexy but it has always provided me with a comfortable living.
Several credos and philosophies I subscribe to:
“Those that know the least are usually the first to speak.”
“People who think they know everything never do any thinking.”
You’ll find several other sites in my links section from around the world of sports that I’ve come to enjoy and I think you will too. Please take a moment to visit them.
Again, thanks for visiting my site. If you’d like to contact me with questions, complaints or suggestions, I can be reached via the “Contact MoonDog” option in the navigation bar. I’ll get back to you just as quickly as I can.
